Background

Clan TDG is a clan that combines strong dedication to play-testing and balancing custom maps with a community of experienced map-makers. The result is a clan that regularly produces well-made, well-balanced, and nearly bug-free custom maps for the Warcraft III community.

Clan TDG formed at the release of the Frozen Throne Expansion, combining two group of play-testers who were working, separately, to balance and perfect three maps: Burbenog TD, Possession TD, and Spidering Willcage (mainly the playtesters of founding members Shvegait and CHUNK).

The result was a large group of playtesters who provided brilliant feedback and balancing information, critical to the success of these maps. Growing from these roots, in July of 2003, Clan TDG expanded to playtesting other maps for the map-making community, establishing its reputation as a clan known for quality maps and dedicated playtesting. The continued success and expansion of the playtesting community resulted in the addition of several other prominent map-makers, known for making maps that are unique and of exceptional quality. Since 2003, Clan TDG has continued growing and adding new members (playtesters and map-makers) to become widely respected by the Warcraft III gaming and map-making communities.

Unlike most mapping clans, TDG has a long-standing tradition of fielding questions from developing map-makers. Members tout patience, friendliness, community, experience, and their eloquence in answering questions from our fellow map-makers. It is this approach to the community, their unique map-makers who refuse to adhere to conventional maps, their experience in solid gameplay, and their extensive group of dedicated playtesters that characterizes the clan.

Very few map-making clans have persisted like Clan TDG, and those that have are rarely as active or productive. With the announcement of the impending release of Starcraft 2, the clan appears poised to continue developing maps throughout the entire clan-enabled era of Warcraft III and will likely transition and continue to make custom maps for the Starcraft 2 community.

How to Join Clan TDG

Our clan is always looking for creative map-makers and serious play-testers to integrate themselves into our community. In the fall of 2003, we began gaining members so quickly that we needed some means to sort out people who were serious and willing to contribute to our clan; to assist us, we created an application for new members. The application has been revised and refined to ask questions that we feel are adequate for assessing candidates interested in joining our clan. If you are interested in joining Clan TDG, you must fill out the application, without exception, no matter who you know, what you can do, or what map you have created. It is part of our process of accepting new members.

Applications are voted upon by Clan TDG officers and often take several days to accumulate enough votes for a decision to be made. The current application is posted on the Clan TDG forums. You will be required to register to the forums in order to apply, because the application must be submitted by a Private Message. Decisions on applications are not based strictly upon map-making skills or reputation, so make sure to answer the questions thoughtfully and completely.
