[edit] Map Description
Map currently still under development
[edit] Gameplay
This map is an expansion map for my original WarcraftIII map, Gauntlet Arcade. The gameplay is essentially identical to the later (mouse) versions of Gauntlet Arcade, but it includes an entire new series of levels, new secondary heroes, and a ton of new features, including many new powerups and other items.
- As with the original Gauntlet Arcade map, the game is designed for any number of players from 1 to 4. The amount of food placed on each level and the amount of experience for kills is adaptive to the number of players - making the map more challenging for solo offline play.
[edit] Objective
Fight your way through levels, surviving constant attacks, taking out creep spawners, fend off Death, and finding your way to the Exits. The map is broken into a series of smaller chapters, meaning that every 5 levels or so you will need to kill off creatively-designed bosses. After each boss level, you are given a code to allow you the option of restarting after that boss - although sometimes it is in your best interest to build up your stockpile of keys, potions, and extra lives.
[edit] Features
- As with the original map, gold that you collect is automatically tranformed into an extra life after you have collected 5000. Quick-access pooling commands and auto-pooling on death allow you to quickly share your resources with other players to keep the action going until no one has any lives remaining or enough gold to pool up to a life.
- In Gauntlet Arcade II, the individual chapters are even more distinct than the original version, each having their own terrain sets, walls, creeps, and level layout designs.
- The four classic Gauntlet heroes are represented: Warrior, Elf, Wizard, and Valkyrie - as well as four new heroes (including a new secret bonus hero), different than the original Gauntlet Arcade, with specialized magic potions and different strengths and weaknesses: Wolfrider, Samurai, Gorgon, Time Lord, and Demonkin. A guide to the heroes is also currently being compiled.
- Secret routes that allow you to advance through levels have been (and will be) installed for each chapter. Hardcore players will have ample opportunity for exploration beyond just finding the fastest route to exits.
[edit] Guide to Powerups, Potions, Upgrades, and Elements
[edit] Powerups
- Multi-shot - Missile attacks flare out, firing 3 missiles at once - triple your chances of shooting food!
- Extended Strike - Temporarily gives units a greater range on sweeping melee attacks.
- Fire Shield - Surrounds the unit with an aura of flame that damages nearby enemy units.
- Power Shot - Missile keeps going until it hits a wall, killing anything in its path - even kills deaths.
- Power Strike - Temporarily increases the damage done by melee attacks.
- Repulsion - Forces spawns to run away from the unit.
- Time Stop - Stops all enemy units and spawners on the map for 5 seconds.
- Tome of Knowledge - Temporarily increases the experience gain rate.
- Scroll of Protection - Temporarily increases the armor of a unit.
[edit] Potions
- Magic Potion - Gives the unit one mana point used for magic ability.
- Poison - Causes any unit that picks it up to lose health (except Gorgon hero); temporarily slows enemies when shot.
- Potion of Healing - Like the ham, only it heals more and makes people even more angry when Seal/Kaye shoots it.
- Potion of Invisibility - Makes the unit that picks it up temporarily invisible - units can still attack and cast magic.
- Potion of Speed - Temporarily makes units that pick it up move faster.
- Potion of Invulnerability - Temporarily makes the unit that picks it up invulnerable.
[edit] Permanent Upgrades
- 1-up - Automatically grants one extra life.
- Permanent Armor Bonus - Increases the armor of a unit.
- Level-up - Automatically increases the level of a hero by one (increases damage/speed of attacks)
- Lifestone - Increases the maximum health of a unit.
- Permanent Speed Upgrade - Increases the movement speed of the unit.
[edit] Elements
- Locked Chest - Unlocks to reveal a random thing (any powerup, upgrade, potion, etc. or sometimes Death). Requires a key to open.
- Barrel - Reveals a secret random thing (or sometimes a creep) when destroyed by missile attacks.
- Exploding Barrel - Explodes, damaging all units (friends and foes) in an area around it when destroyed by missile attacks.
- Crate - Reveals a secret random thing when destroyed by missile attacks (usually potions, scrolls, gold, or hams, but sometimes spiders).
- Magic Box - Reveals a secret when destroyed by missile attacks (top-end powerups and upgrades, but sometimes Death).
- Cage - Reveals a secret when destroyed by missile attacks (usually creeps, but sometimes a goodie).
- Tombstone - Reveals Death when destroyed by missile attacks. Try to avoid shooting these.
[edit] More Info
- Software developed by Shvegait for the original Gauntlet Arcade was adapted to allow for even greater flexibility in the design of levels for this map - all of which was done using MS Excel, which was then automatically converted into JASS.
- Levels for different themesets, so far, have been designed primarily by Zantetsuken, with some additions and adjustments by CHUNK. Additional levels are also currently being designed by Shvegait.
